HKUST Hosts Naming Ceremony of Futu Academic Pavilion
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) received a generous donation of HKD 30 million from Futu Securities International (Hong Kong) Limited (Futu) to support the University’s innovation and research development, as well as to establish a new scholarship recognizing outstanding HKUST students. In appreciation of Futu’s dedicated support, the University has named a multi-purpose learning facility at the Lee Shau Kee Library as the “Futu Academic Pavilion,” which serving as a key academic center for its faculty and students to engage in teaching, group discussions, and individual learning. This initiative not only underscores the importance of industry-academia collaboration in talent development but also lays a solid foundation for long-term cooperation between the two parties.
The naming ceremony was recently held, and officiated by Mr. Arthur CHEN, Chief Financial Officer of Futu Holdings; Mr. Jeff SHI, Regional Director of Futu Securities; Mr. Daniel TSE, Managing Director of Futu Securities; Prof. Nancy IP, HKUST President; Prof. Charles Wang-Wai NG, Vice-President for Institutional Advancement, and Prof. Tim Kwang-Ting CHENG, Vice-President for Research and Development; as well as other representatives from HKUST and Futu to witness this momentous occasion.

Of the HKD 30 million donation from Futu, HKD 20 million will support HKUST’s academic frontiers, fostering research excellence, and strengthening the University’s leadership in various fields. This funding will also reinforce academia-industry partnerships and accelerate the translation of research outcomes into practical applications that benefit society.
The remaining HKD 10 million will establish the “Futu Scholarship,” which will support and recognize outstanding undergraduates in computer science, data science, AI, biotechnology, and finance and economics over a period of ten years, benefiting 500 students. This program aims to inspire these students to excel, innovate, and become visionary leaders who address global challenges and advance technological progress.
This partnership highlights the shared commitment of HKUST and Futu to driving innovation and nurturing talent, injecting new vitality into Hong Kong’s technology and fintech industries. It motivates the next generation of students and researchers to collaborate for the sustained growth of these sectors, reinforcing Hong Kong’s position as an international financial center and a global hub for innovation and technology.
