HKUST IdeasLab showcases emerging technologies’ changes to human experience at World Economic Forum “Summer Davos”
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) offered a glimpse into how human experience would be enhanced by emerging technologies at the Annual Meeting of the New Champions of the World Economic Forum, widely known as the “Summer Davos”, in September in Tianjin, China.Officiated by Premier Li Keqiang,more than 1,500 political and community leaders, academics, experts and global entrepreneurs from over 90 countries and regions engaged to address the challenge of technological advance presented and discuss how innovation can generate better value to society under this year’s theme, “Creating Value through Innovation”.

HKUST Co-hosts My Toy Design Competition 2014-15 with Toy Industry Leaders
The Department of Industrial Engineering and Logistics Management (IELM) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) co-hosts My Toy Design Competition 2014-15 with the Hong Kong Toys Council (HKTC) and the Toys Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong Limited (TMHK), aiming to nurture creativity of students, recruit exceptional design talents and maintain the sustainable development of the toy industry in Hong Kong.

HKUST First Local Institution to Co-host “National Challenge Cup”
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) signed a memorandum with Guangdong University of Technology (GDUT) today to map out the details of co-hosting the “National Challenge Cup” – a competition branded as the Olympiad of Science and Technology for university students. It is the first time for a local university to co-host the event in the Cup’s 25 years of history.The biennial "National Challenge Cup" is a mega contest in academic and technological innovation for university students in China. Since Tsinghua University first hosted the event, it has turned into an iconic competition on science and innovation with its scale growing from a few hundred participants out of 19 institutes, to nearly 7,000 students from over 400 universities. Winners included a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, nearly 10 heads of state key laboratories and over 220 professors and doctoral advisors.

HKUST Partners with Thales to Boost Innovation and Technological Development
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Thales have entered into a collaborative agreement, marking a milestone in the joint efforts to boost innovation, nurture young engineering innovators, and serve the development of smart cities in the region.
Under the agreement, HKUST and Thales will work closely on collaborative research projects including next-generation information technology on aeronautical, space, defense, transportation, security and x-ray imaging. The agreement will also see the exchanges of researchers and mutual visits, student internship and co-nourishment of engineers.

HKUST Business School hosts International Executive Education Conference
Deans and directors of executive education from more than 50 top universities and business schools around the world gathered at the HKUST Business School today to kick off the 2014 UNICON Directors' Conference. They will engage in discussions about the growing opportunities and challenges for executive education in Asia.
Professor Kalok Chan, Acting Dean of the HKUST Business School, said, "Asia is fast becoming a business education hub, which is reflected by the significant growth of education programs, including executive education. The rise of Asia has created a range of unprecedented opportunities for the industry, and opened windows for collaboration among business schools, not only within the region but also with the rest of the world."

The Women's Foundation and ANZ launch a new Scholarship Award to encourage female undergraduates to pursue engineering and technology degrees at HKUST
ANZ donates 30 paintings painted by Susan Yuen, CEO of ANZ Hong Kong, for auction to raise proceeds for scholarship fund
The Women's Foundation and ANZ announced today an exciting new partnership to address the under-representation of young women in Hong Kong pursuing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects at university.
The need for this support comes on the back of a new study conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) for The Women's Foundation showing that the technology sector continues to be largely male-dominated in Hong Kong.

HKUST Signs MoU with International Mathematical Olympiad on Annual World Mathematics Championship
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Mathematical Olympiad Hong Kong Committee Company Limited (IMOHKCL) to be the Host Institution of the 57th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) - one of the most prominent international competitions for school students in the mathematics community. The competition will be held in Hong Kong in 2016.
Prof Tony F Chan, President of HKUST, said the University was honored to host this prestigious event.

Driving New Perspectives on Global Leadership
Living in a world where we can no longer simply rely on traditional rules and principles, a responsible policy and decision maker should always react fast and search for up-to-date understanding and creative solutions to global issues that impact our daily lives.
To this end, the University of Oxford and the HKUST has joined forces to establish the Oxford-HKUST Leadership and Public Policy (LAPP) Series. This is the first program under the recently established LAPP Executive Education Office of HKUST which provides executive education for policy and decision makers including senior civil servants and officials from government, statutory or related bodies and NGO’s in Hong Kong, Mainland China and other parts of Asia.
