HKUST Community to Organize Summer Garage Sale for Fun and Sustainability
A garage sale with over 190 stalls of new and pre-loved goods will be held in the covered car park at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) this Saturday (2 June).
In line with the commitment of HKUST to environmental sustainability, the biannual Garage Sale endorses the Reduce-Reuse-Recycle (3Rs) campaign.
Mrs Jean Hudson, the garage sale coordinator, takes delight in the enthusiastic reception by the HKUST community, outside organizations and general public at large. That the event is well-received by the charitable organizations adds to it even more significance. As in previous years, the proceeds from the table hire fees will be donated to charities for the benefit of many people in a variety of ways. This is a fun and enjoyable community event.

HKUST Ranked No. 1 in Asia for the Second Year in a Row
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is delighted that the highly reputable Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) University Rankings: Asia has once again named HKUST the top university in Asia, making it two years in a row.According to the QS University Rankings: Asia released today, HKUST has maintained its top position in Asia. The University ranked first in the QS Rankings in 2011.

HKUST Organizes 2012 One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition To Foster Entrepreneurial Spirit
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) held the HKUST One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition again this year. Neoid Limited was the champion, while Green ACE and iTorr were the first and second runners-up. The total awards offered by this Competition amounted to HK$1 million.
This was the second time HKUST organized the HKUST One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition. 89 teams made up of faculty, staff, students and alumni from the schools of Science, Engineering and Business participated. More than 50 leading executives, professional investors and entrepreneurial academics formed an international judging panel to select 12 finalists after rounds of rigorous competitions.

HKUST-trained Young Physicists Achieve Best Ever Results in Asian Physics Olympiad 2012
The Hong Kong team of the 13th Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO) trained by the Department of Physics of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) achieved the best results ever in the competition, amassing 1 gold, 2 bronze medals and 3 honorable mentions. Amongst the brilliant contestants is gold medalist Lam Ho-tat, who achieved fourth place in Asia amongst competitors in APhO.

HKUST School of Engineering Research Excellence Awards Recognize Distinguished Engineering Achievements
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) announced the recipients of the School of Engineering (SENG) Research Excellence Awards 2012. The recipients are outstanding scholars who have made significant discoveries at the forefront of engineering research.
The annual SENG Research Excellence Awards were launched in 2011 to recognize the impact and contributions of the School’s faculty members. The awards are classified into three types to encompass faculty members who are in different stages of their academic life. The School currently has about 160 faculty members across its six departments.

HP and HKUST Achieve Breakthrough in Advanced Networking and Information Analytics Research
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and HP today announced breakthroughs regarding their collaboration to advance networking and information analytics technology. New innovations include a wireless multi-hop network which provided wider bandwidth coverage range, as well as an information analytics solution with a new probabilistic approach. HKUST and HP have also been working together to explore innovative approaches to promote education in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) through the HP Catalyst Initiative.
HKUST is the only Hong Kong institution to receive two awards as part of the fourth annual HP Labs Innovation Research Program (IRP) in September 2011. The program has created opportunities for faculty members and students at leading tertiary institutions worldwide to conduct breakthrough research with HP. HKUST’s projects are two of 62 selected from 626 proposals from 525 researchers.

Esquel Group Chairman and HKUST President Share Insights On Industry and Economic Growth at UC RUSAL President's Forum
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and UC RUSAL (SEHK: 486, Euronext: RUSAL/RUAL, MICEX and RTS: RUALR), the world’s largest aluminum producer, hosted the UC RUSAL President’s Forum today on ‘Making a Difference, a Stitch at a Time’ featuring Ms Marjorie Yang, Chairman of Esquel Group and one of Fortune’s Top 50 Most Powerful Women in Business. Ms Yang shared insights regarding how a traditional industry could become a catalyst for societal change.
