The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) received a HK$100 million donation from Dr Li Dak Sum for the establishment of a research development fund to help drive the University’s high-impact research forward.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) expressed heartfelt gratitude to a HK$150 million donation made by Mr Martin Ka Shing Lee, in support of a new Innovation Building that will take the University’s innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives to the next level. In recognition of the donor’s generosity, the building will be named “Martin Ka Shing Lee Innovation Building” after Mr Martin Ka Shing Lee, Vice-Chairman of Henderson Land Development Company Limited, and the son of The Honorable Lee Shau Kee, GBM, Chairman of Henderson Land.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has established two Hong Kong branches of Chinese National Engineering Research Centers (CNERC), namely the Hong Kong Branch of CNERC for Tissue Restoration and Reconstruction, and the Hong Kong Branch of CNERC for Control and Treatment of Heavy Metal Pollution, following approval from the State Ministry of Science and Technology.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) received donations from the Wong Chak Chui Charitable Foundation to boost its education and research development, and to set up the Wong Chak Chui International Enrichment Scholarship which supports financially needy students of the School of Business and Management to participate in overseas enrichment programs including international competitions, conferences and community projects. The Foundation also pledged its support to HKUST in hosting the 2016 International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in Hong Kong. In recognition of the Foundation’s generosity and support, the University named the lecture theater of the Lee Shau Kee Business Building after the late Mr Wong Chak Chui.

It turns out that light in the form of fluorescence has vital but hidden uses for the modern world. They make the invisible visible—including the detection of explosives in security screening, environmental monitoring, biological sensing and the detection and diagnosis in the spread of cancer cells. With high sensitivity, superb specificity and excellent stability, a new class of fluorogenic materials developed at HKUST with “aggregation-induced emission” characteristics have attracted worldwide attention from hospitals and biotech companies. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) held an opening ceremony for the Fok Ying Tung Research Institute Building at the Nansha IT Park in Guangzhou today. Agreements on setting up the National Supercomputer Center in Nansha and on education, research and industry collaboration projects were signed at the ceremony with a view to fostering science and research collaboration as well as knowledge transfer between Hong Kong and the Mainland.

Sport is a great way to connect people. Situated right on the waterfront, HKUST takes full advantage of its enviable natural environment, showing full support for the development of water sports on campus. The HKUST Water Sports Center was soft launched on 19 October 2013 at the Dragon Boat Fun Race. In the future, the Center will offer diverse types of recreational and water sports activities for enrichment of campus life. Activities will include dragon boat, sea rowing, windsurfing, kayaking, sailing, and many others. HKUST aspires to create an environment where its students can get together to try challenging outdoor pursuits, find common interest through sportsmanship, develop their competitive spirit, and foster the virtues of discipline, resilience and excellence.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) held an opening ceremony for the Lee Shau Kee Campus and Lee Shau Kee Business Building today, marking a milestone in the University's development and its future education and research. Dr Lee Shau Kee, Chairman of Henderson Land Group, has been a long-standing supporter of HKUST. He is a Founding Member of the University Court and holds an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration from HKUST. Dr Lee has supported the University's development through the Lee Shau Kee Foundation, including a donation of HK$400 million to advance the University's position as a global education and research leader. In honor of this generosity, the University has named the new campus extension and the academic building on the campus the Lee Shau Kee Campus and Lee Shau Kee Business Building respectively.
