'Father of Lan Kwai Fong' Dr Allan Zeman To Speak On Entrepreneurship At UC RUSAL President's Forum
UC RUSAL (SEHK: 486, Euronext: RUSAL/RUAL, Moscow Exchange: RUALR/RUALRS), a leading global aluminum producer, and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) have invited Dr Allan Zeman, Chairman of Lan Kwai Fong Group and Chairman of Ocean Park Corporation, to speak at the UC RUSAL President’s Forum on 22 November 2013. Hosted by Prof Tony F Chan, President of HKUST, the UC RUSAL President’s Forum will feature renowned businessman Dr Allan Zeman. At the forum, he will share insights on Entrepreneurship: Turning “I Wish” into “I Will”.

HKUST Receives HK$20 million from Li Ka Shing Foundation to Broaden Students' Global Vision and Nurture Innovative Future Leaders
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has received a HK$20 million donation from the Li Ka Shing Foundation to support University initiatives to nurture globally aware and creative young leaders, including international research opportunities, entrepreneurship, community engagement, and other development activities. Dr Li Ka-shing and the Li Ka Shing Foundation have been long-standing and visionary supporters of education and technology and have made significant contributions to advance these two areas in both Hong Kong and Mainland China. Dr Li and the Foundation recently sponsored a joint venture between Technion - Israel Institute of Technology and Shantou University to open the Technion Guangdong Institute of Technology. The Institute is seeking to become a hi-tech powerhouse and to drive forward development in Guangdong Province. It also aims to strengthen hi-tech innovation links between China and the world.

HKUST Holds 21st Congregation Conferring Honorary Doctorates on Six Distinguished Academics and Leaders
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) held its 21st Congregation today (8 November) and conferred honorary doctorates on six eminent academics and community leaders. Chairman of the University Council Dr Marvin K T Cheung, GBS, JP, presided over today's ceremony. Dr Jack Ma Yun, Chairman of Alibaba Group, delivered HKUST's first commencement speech following the conferment of the Honorary Degrees. HKUST honorary doctorates are awarded to outstanding individuals in recognition of their distinguished achievements and contributions. HKUST IdeasLab Sheds Light on Brain Research and Aging at World Economic Forum "Summer Davos"
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) held its first specifically named HKUST IdeasLab session at the Annual Meeting of the New Champions of the World Economic Forum, convened in September in Dalian, China. Premier Li Keqiang officiated at the Forum, also known as the "Summer Davos", which brought together more than 2,000 political and community leaders, academics, experts and global entrepreneurs from over 90 countries and regions to discuss key global challenges and share related strategies on the theme of "Meeting the Innovation Imperative". The HKUST Ideas Lab featured an expert team from the University, led by the HKUST President, in a discussion on brain research and aging issues with other global specialists.

HKUST Receives Support from Tongyi Industrial Group to Boost E-commerce Research
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has received a US$500,000 donation from the Tongyi Industrial Group to boost the development of the Center for Electronic Commerce at the University's School of Business and Management. In appreciation of Tongyi Industrial Group's generosity, the University has named the Center after the Group.

HKUST Confers Honorary Fellowships on Four Distinguished Leaders
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) held its annual ceremony for the award of Honorary Fellowships today. Officiating at the ceremony were Mr Martin Y Tang, Council Vice-Chairman and Prof Tony F Chan, President of HKUST. Four distinguished leaders awarded the 2013 Honorary Fellowships are Dr Robin Chan, Mr Cheah Cheng-Hye, Prof Takako Nishizaki and Dr Zhang Ya-Qin. Their brief biographies are set out as follows:

HKUST Launches Common Core Course Excellence Award to Foster Holistic Education
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) last Friday presented its first Common Core Course Excellence Award to courses which demonstrate the University's efforts to enhance balanced and holistic education in view of the four-year undergraduate reform. HKUST's Common Core Program, with more than 260 courses, encompasses humanities, social analysis, science and technology, quantitative reasoning, arts, English communication, Chinese communication, and healthy lifestyle. It comprises 36 credits out of a total of 120 to 126 credits of the four-year degree program.
