HKUST Installs New President and Confers Honorary Doctoral Degrees on Three Distinguished Academics and Community Leaders at its 26th Congregation
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) held the installation of its fourth President Prof. Wei SHYY cum 26th Congregation (November 16) today.  The University also awarded honorary doctorates to three outstanding individuals in recognition of their distinguished achievements and contributions.  This year’s recipients were (surname in alphabetical order): Henry CHENG Kar-Shun, Chairman and Executive Director of New World Development Company and Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group – Doctor of Business Administration honoria causa Carol DWECK, Lewis and Virginia Eaton Professor of Psychology at Stanford University – Doctor of Business Administration honoria causa Martin TANG Yue-Nien, former Vice-Chairman and Acting Chairman of the HKUST Council – Doctor of Letters honoria causa

HKUST Hosts Inaugural Asia-Pacific Rising Stars Women in Engineering Workshop to Nurture Female Academic Leaders and Promote Diversity in Academia
Dozens of young female engineers and postgraduate students from top universities and institutions worldwide arrived at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) on 4 October to explore a career of teaching and research in Asia Pacific. They participated in a first-of-its-kind workshop where faculty members from top Asian universities will mentor and inspire them on ways to begin a rewarding career in academia.

This event serves to support the World Mental Health Day (10 Oct) observed by World Health Organization (WHO). We aim at moving forward to build a connected and united HKUST campus among different stakeholders, to arouse awareness on psychological well-being, and to de-stigmatize the sick role of seeking psychological counseling or treatment when needed.

We believe that youngster should break through traditional boundaries to pursue their dreams, and IPO, as an education pioneer, will provide tremendous support to our students to achieve their goals. There should be no limitations in learning, experiencing and exploring. Through this photo contest, we encourage everyone to explore and share "without boundaries" happy moments in daily life!

Leading Experts from China, Hong Kong and the World Share Insights on Smart Cities at HKUST’s First Symposium
The GREAT Smart Cities Center of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted its Inaugural Symposium of GREAT Smart Cities today (Friday), providing a distinguished platform for experts from Mainland China, Hong Kong and the rest of the world to share information and ideas on the development of smart cities. GREAT is an acronym for Green, Resilient, Empowering, Adaptable, and Transformative. The opening ceremony was officiated by Prof Wei Shyy, Acting President, HKUST; Prof Tim Cheng, Dean of Engineering, HKUST; and Prof Christine Loh, former Under Secretary for the Environment of HKSAR Government, and Chief Development Strategist of the Division of Environment and Sustainability, HKUST. Prof Hong K Lo, Director of GREAT Smart Cities Center, introduced the Center to the audience.
