Nobel Laureate Professor Hiroshi Amano Speaks on the Development of LEDs at the Last Talk of HKUST 25th Anniversary Distinguished Speakers Series
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted the last round of its Distinguished Speakers Series today - a talk series launched over a year ago to celebrate the University’s 25th anniversary. Prof Hiroshi Amano, a renowned physicist and engineer in semiconductor technology, marked the 9th Nobel laureate and the 27th who spoke for the series hosted by corporate leaders, entrepreneurs and key financial policy shapers around the world.

HKUST Jockey Club Hall Opens to Promote Holistic Education and Eco-friendliness
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) staged an opening ceremony yesterday for HKUST Jockey Club Hall – a new residential building at Tseung Kwan O that provides 512 bed spaces for undergraduate students. The off-campus hostel was named after The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) for its generous donation of HK$33 million to help undergraduate students with the opportunity to stay in a student hostel for at least one year of their course.

"We create our own happiness." Positive psychology is about creating our own happiness in a proactive manner. Psychological research suggested that we have a capacity to control our individual happiness. We hope by participating in the event, students would learn more about how these "happiness habit" work and then put them into practice in our daily life.

Climathon Conference: Extreme Heat, Extreme Density - Problems and Solutions
The Division of Environment (ENVR) organized a one-day Climathon Conference titled Extreme Heat, Extreme Density - Problems and Solutions on 29 October 2016 which is the first time Climathon has launched their activity in Hong Kong. More than 100 undergraduate and postgraduate students, guests and members from the general public and intelligentsia (think tank, environmental NGOs, research institutes etc.) have registered and participated.

Microsoft’s Executive Vice President for Artificial Intelligence and Research Dr Harry Shum Speaks on Artificial Intelligence at HKUST 25th Anniversary Distinguished Speakers Series
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted the 25th Anniversary Distinguished Speakers Series today, featuring Dr Harry Shum, Executive Vice President of Microsoft’s Artificial Intelligence and Research Group. The event was well received by students, faculty members and guests from HKUST.
Speaking on “Realizing the Promise of Artificial Intelligence – moving from machine-centric to human-centric, from perception to cognition, and from rational to emotional”, Dr Shum shared Microsoft’s vision, efforts and tangible progress in accelerating artificial intelligence (AI).

Innovate Your Future-Exploring IPO at HKUST
Around 50 secondary students attended "Innovate Your Future-Exploring IPO at HKUST" held on 26 November 2016 to know more about the undergraduate programs offered by Interdisciplinary Programs Office (IPO). IPO also invited Mr Ken CHENG, Associate Engineer of Cathay Pacific Airways Limited and the alumni of T&M-DDP, to share how he fulfilled his flying dream of building and flying Hong Kong's first homebuilt and locally certified aircraft.

HKUST 24th Congregation
HKUST's 24th Congregation was held on 17 & 18 November 2016. Over 100 IPO graduates from Dual Degree Program in Technology and Management (T&M-DDP), Risk Management & Business Intelligence Program (RMBI), Environmental Management and Technology Program (EVMT), MPhil/PhD Environmental Science, Policy and Management (ESPM) and MSc Environmental Science and Management (EVSM) attended the Congregation Ceremony on 17 November 2016 at the Atrium.
