HKUST Welcomes Hungarian Research Network to Advance AI and Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration
Prof. Tim CHENG, Vice-President for Research and Development at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) warmly hosted a delegation from the Hungarian Research Network (HUN-REN) on November 21, joined by Prof. Penger TONG, Associate Vice-President for Research and Development (Research) and Dr. Shin Cheul KIM, Associate Vice-President for Research and Development (Knowledge Transfer).The delegation was led by Prof. Balázs GULYÁS, President of HUN-REN, accompanied by Mr. Roland JAKAB, Chief Executive Officer, and Ms. Barbara Ning BÁLINT, International Scientific Secretary.With a shared vision to pioneer the development and application of AI across interdisciplinary fields, both parties engaged in productive discussions on potential collaborations, including joint academic events, faculty-led workshops, and seed fund initiatives aimed at strengthening research ties and advancing innovation.

HKUST Deepens Academic Exchange and Joint Research Opportunities with the University of Toronto
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) welcomed a delegation from the University of Toronto (UoT) on November 24, reaffirming the long-standing partnership between the two institutions built on academic exchange and collaborative research over the years.The delegation was led by Prof. Joseph WONG, Vice-President, International, and Prof. Alex MIHAILIDIS, Associate Vice-President, International Partnerships. HKUST and JD.com Establish Joint Lab to Pioneer Smart Logistics and Health Management
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and JD.com today signed a cooperation agreement to establish the “HKUST – JD.com Joint Laboratory” (Joint Lab). This collaboration will focus on pioneering research in artificial intelligence (AI) and embodied intelligence technologies to build a world-class platform for innovation and address critical technological challenges in smart supply chains.Witnessed by HKUST Provost Prof. Yike GUO and Vice Chair of Strategic Executive Committee and Chief Executive Officer of JD.com Ms. Sandy XU, the agreement was signed by HKUST Vice-President for Research and Development, Prof. Tim CHENG, and JD.com representatives.

HKUST Unites International Experts in CliMetS Initiative to Tackle Climate Threat of Seabed Methane Seeps
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has successfully launched the Global Climate Impact of Methane Seeps (CliMetS) Initiative through a pivotal collaboration with the Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Guangzhou) (GML) and over 200 experts worldwide. Endorsed as a UN Ocean Decade Action, CliMetS is dedicated to mapping seabed methane seeps across the world’s oceans and quantifying their impact on global climate systems. Recently, HKUST co-led two milestone workshops in South America and Africa, galvanizing global efforts to address methane seep research gaps and fostering cross-continental partnerships.

HKUST and Fudan Elevate Strategic Collaboration to Build Global Hub for New Engineering Innovation
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Fudan University today announced a significant expansion of their strategic partnership aimed at establishing a global academic exchange and innovation hub in new engineering disciplines. The enhanced collaboration was unveiled at the inaugural Xianghui International Frontiers Forum, held at HKUST’s Clear Water Bay Campus.
The event brought together over 200 top scientists, young scholars, and institutional leaders from nearly 10 countries and regions. A key highlight was the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on academic exchange and talent cultivation between Fudan University’s Xianghui Institute and the College of Smart Materials and Future Energy, and HKUST’s School of Engineering.
