HKUST and Delft University of Technology Launch Partnership on Art and Technology Education and Research
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in the Netherlands, have formed a new strategic partnership focused on art and technology education and research.   This partnership, inaugurated on December 6, 2024, by HKUST Dean of the Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies (AIS) Prof. QU Huamin and a delegation from TU Delft led by Prof. Maaike KLEINSMANN, Chair of the TU Delft | Campus Rotterdam Program, marks a significant milestone in fostering interdisciplinary innovation, and enhancing knowledge exchange in art and technology to create meaningful social impact.

As the world grapples with challenges such as climate change, pandemics, geopolitical tensions, and dilemmas of the AI revolution, universities stand as fortified citadels of knowledge and innovation. Recognizing that no single institution or discipline can tackle these complex challenges alone, university leaders are increasingly leveraging collective expertise and resources to forge a sustainable, equitable, and brighter future for all. The Global University Presidents & Leaders Summit 2024, held on December 2-3, 2024, in Hong Kong, epitomized this collaborative spirit. Organized by the Hong Kong Association for External Friendship and supported by the University Grants Committee along with nine Hong Kong universities, this landmark event brought together over 50 globally renowned university presidents and leaders, providing a platform to share insights, forge partnerships, and strategize on addressing global challenges effectively.

HKUST and CMA Form Strategic Partnership to Advance Meteorological Research and Global Climate Resilience
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) have signed a collaborative framework agreement to drive innovation in meteorological science and education. By leveraging the complementary strengths of CMA and HKUST, the collaboration aims to enhance early warning systems, strengthen disaster preparedness, and build climate-resilient communities, underscoring the shared commitment of both institutions to tackle global climate challenges and support the initiatives of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

HKUST Celebrates Emirati Culture and Ongoing Partnership at UAE National Day Event
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) warmly welcomed H.E. Shaikh SAOUD ALI AL MUALLA, the Consul General of the UAE in Hong Kong, to a cultural event celebrating the 53rd Eid Al Etihad (also known as the UAE Union Day) on November 28 at the HKUST campus.  Organized by the university's Undergraduate Recruitment and Admissions Office in collaboration with the UAE student community and generously supported by the Consulate General of the UAE in Hong Kong, the event showcased traditional Emirati costumes, authentic dishes, and a photo exhibition featuring the iconic monuments of the UAE, bringing the spirit of the Emirati culture to the HKUST campus.

HKUST Shares Education Innovation insights at THE Event in Malaysia 
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) recently shared its education innovation insights at the Times Higher Education (THE) Campus Live SE Asia forum held in Malaysia from November 26-27, 2024. Representing HKUST, Dr. Sean MCMINN attended the event which convened over 300 leaders in higher education, industry partners and policy experts from across Southeast Asia. The event explored innovative ways to remodel university systems to ensure a resilient future for individuals, institutions and wider society.

HKUST Faculty Spotlight University at Dubai Future Forum
Faculty members of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) community represented the university at the Dubai Future Forum, hosted by the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF) on November 19-20. Known as the world’s largest gathering of futurists, the event brought together scientists and experts from over 100 countries to forecast critical trends and address global challenges. Prof. Janet HSIAO from HKUST’s Division of Social Science took the stage on the panel “Towards Symbiosis: How is Our Relationship with Algorithmic Life-Forms Evolving?” where she shares insights on AI's impact on human cognition, the comparability of human and AI intelligence over time, and the importance of governance.

HKUST Strengthens Global Ties at AUA Executives’ Meeting and Youth Forum in India
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) participated in the Asian Universities Alliance (AUA) Executives’ Meeting at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) from November 11 to 14, 2024. The AUA Executives’ Meeting is held annually with the aims of reviewing the programs, gathering thoughts and discussing the opportunities for future development. Representing HKUST, Dr. Shin Cheul KIM, Associate Vice-President for Research and Development (Knowledge Transfer), shared the university’s pioneering efforts in nurturing future leaders with a focus on innovation and entrepreneurship. He highlighted HKUST’s pioneering work in tech transfer and deep tech incubation that are reshaping higher education.

HKUST Enhances Global Collaboration Through Fruitful Dialogues with Cornell University and Global Hub Partners
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), as part of the Global Hubs Network led by Cornell University, participated in the 2024 Global Hubs Network Meeting held in London from October 31 to November 2, 2024. The event was jointly hosted by Imperial College London, King's College London, Queen Mary University of London, University College London and University of Edinburgh.
