A Mixture of Struggle and Adventure
It’s been one year since I’ve been here - A year full of struggle and adventure. Just go and ask an international student what they think about HKUST and the Academics here, and more often than not, you’ll get “Struggle” and “Stress” as the two most recurring replies. Yes, more often than not, the university will engulf you in its academic fold because the pressure to perform here is extremely high, as is the amount of hard work required to get an “A.”

Howzat?!?!
Credit to Nitesh Hemlani, HKUST student Cricket has always been my passion. From a young age I used to follow the sport obsessively, and spend all my evenings playing it with my friends, or on the computer if they were all busy. For a good chunk of my childhood, Cricket was my life. Therefore, one of my primary concerns before coming to HKUST was about if there was any Cricket. Sure, stuff like studies, housing, social life and food mattered, but not as much as Cricket. I had to play Cricket, I couldn't imagine a life without it. And so you can imagine my joy when, on my very first day at HKUST, I met a couple of people who knew of cricket practice being held at the UST ground on 8 AM the coming Saturday morning.

I was there
I was there when she was born. I saw her take her first hesitant steps. I tried to provide some help along the way and now she is mature and has a great future ahead of her. Her name is HKUST. I joined the University in 1989. We nurtured them, guided them and loved them. They are now mature young women with a great future ahead of them. They are our daughters, born in 1989. Growing children and a growing University have lots in common, if you think about it. HKUST is my third child. I have seen it grow, from a hole in the ground - no buildings, few professors and no students - into a top University. Proud family members fill the atrium every year at the congregation. Proud parents attend their children's weddings. Both events make way for the next generation. Sentimental, I know but ………..

Do you like UST, my dear?
We visited the UST in 2003. You were 3 years old and enjoyed the environment very much. We strolled along the shore, on the lawn, and had a brief visit to the library. What a wonderful campus with grand sea view! However, you were more interested in the little soap bubbles created from the small bottle at your hand. You were like a scientist with much curiosity! "Do you like UST, my dear? Are you going to be a scientist when you grow up?" I asked. You answered me with a nice blow of bubbles towards my face, and bursted into laughters. Curiosity is always a great motivator for learning. There are many valid reasons for getting a degree, especially in a well-known University. I believe that it is most important to keep an open heart and mind with curiosity, that cultivates the passion for learning.

Amazing Hall Three Life
University is one big learning experience. We can learn about academic subject of course, but university also teaches us a lot about life and provides unique opportunities that we would never get the chance to experience anywhere else. If I hadn’t have lived in halls I would not have had some of the best experiences of my life. Nothing beats being thrown in the deep end with other people that you’ve never met before and all having to learn how to live on your own, cook food and get on. AT 2007 , I graduated in UST BBA economics and finance department . During my year three , I lived in Hall three. It is amazing .I share the room with someone I don't know at all, yet, a year one student . He is clever and handsome, haha. We always play computer game , AOC, age of empire ^^. I think Hall Three is the best hall HAHAHAH
