Prof. Kei May LAU Named 2020 OSA Nick Holonyak Jr. Award Recipient
Prof. Kei May LAU, Fang Professor of Engineering and Chair Professor of Electronic and Computer Engineering (ECE), has been selected as the 2020 recipient of The Optical Society (OSA) Nick Holonyak Jr. Award. She is recognized for significant contributions to hetero-epitaxy of compound semiconductors on silicon for future integrated lasers and advancing the field of light-emitting diode microdisplays.

HKUST Holds Fifth Inauguration Ceremony of Named Professorships for Outstanding Faculty Members
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) held the fifth inauguration ceremony of named professorships today to honor 11 outstanding faculty members and their donors.
HKUST Council Chairman Mr. Andrew LIAO Cheung-Sing and President Prof. Wei SHYY officiated at the ceremony – conducted online this year in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Donors and friends of the university also participated in the ceremony in celebration of the inauguration.

HKUST Confers Honorary Doctoral Degrees and Fellowships on Distinguished Individuals
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today awarded honorary doctoral degrees to 5 distinguished academics and community leaders; as well as honorary fellowships on 5 other outstanding individuals in recognition of their distinguished achievements and contributions. Officiating at the ceremony were Mr. Andrew LIAO Cheung-Sing, Chairman of HKUST Council and Prof. Wei SHYY, President of HKUST. HKUST Business School Stands Out on Gender Balance Performance
The School of Business and Management of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST Business School) has performed well on its gender balance among the world’s top 20 business schools, according to an analysis by 20-FIRST.
20-FIRST is one of the world’s leading global consultancy firms with a focus on promoting gender balance and organizational effectiveness. The firm believes that business schools are a key lever in the ability of companies to gender balance and their faculty members affect the mindsets of graduates when they join the business world. Of the top 20 business schools accessed, the HKUST Business School scored the highest percentage of female faculty (30% Female / 70% Male), ahead of Harvard Business School and Yale School of Management.
