HKUST’s InvestLM Generative AI Platform Launches to Support Financial SMEs Harnessing the Potential of AI Technology
Following the successful development of InvestLM — Hong Kong's first open-source large language model (LLM) for financial generative AI (GenAI) applications, the School of Business and Management of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST Business School) has just launched the InvestLM Generative AI Platform, which will be opened for free registration to the financial services industry in phases. The platform is capable of handling finance-related GenAI tasks and generating human-like responses comparable to those of well-known general-purpose chatbots.

HKUST and Li & Fung Launch Supply Chain Institute
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Li & Fung, a member of Fung Group, jointly announced today the establishment of the HKUST Li & Fung Supply Chain Institute (the Institute), aimed at advancing research and practices in global supply chain management (SCM) innovation.
The Institute brings together HKUST’s research excellence and Li & Fung’s industry expertise in supply chain management to drive real-world impact across the Greater Bay Area, Greater China, Asia, and globally, while contributing to Hong Kong’s development into a multinational supply chain management center — a strategic objective highlighted in the city’s latest Budget. It aims to reach these goals by engaging in collaborative research, developing business intelligence through industry research and policy studies, and fostering talent development through customized executive education and partnership programs.

HKUST's InvestLM: Hong Kong's First Open-Source Large Language Model for Financial Generative AI Applications
A research team at the School of Business and Management of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST Business School) has developed InvestLM — Hong Kong's first open-source large language model (LLM) for financial generative AI (GenAI) applications, capable of generating investment-related, human-like responses comparable to those of well-known commercial chatbots, including OpenAI's ChatGPT. InvestLM’s model parameters[i] and the insights from its development process have been made publicly available to support industry practitioners and researchers in deploying LLM-related technology.

HKUST Tops in Areas of Excellence and Theme-based Research Schemes 2023-24 Funding
Three research projects led by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) were today awarded a combined total of HK$167 million by the Research Grants Council (RGC)’s Areas of Excellence (AoE) Scheme and the Theme-based Research Scheme (TRS) 2023/24. HKUST also leads the highest number of funded projects among all local universities, and has secured the largest single funding amount of HK$87.1 million for one of its projects.
The three studies - covering climate change forecast and mitigation in the Greater Bay Area, landslide risk management, as well as regulation of digital assets in Hong Kong, will receive approximately HK$142 million from the RGC.
