To Prof. Stephane REDONNET, scientific research is a personal as much as a professional journey, which calls not only for rigor and inventiveness, but also authenticity and boldness. A latecomer to academia, he brings his significant background in aerospace research, as well as the life experiences gained from his unconventional path.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has been appointed by the China National Space Administration (CNSA) to lead the international "Hong Kong Operation Robot" project for the Chang'E-8 mission. The project will unite global aerospace scholars and experts to develop a multi-functional lunar surface operation robot. Equipped with a mobile charging station and capable of dexterous operations, the robot is designed to make significant contributions to the nation's lunar exploration missions.

Prof. XIE Yuan, Fang Professor of Engineering and Chair Professor of the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, was honored with a 2025 CCF Overseas Outstanding Contribution Award by China Computer Federation (CCF). He is concurrently Director of the Jockey Club STEM Lab of Future Advanced Computing Technologies (FACT Lab) and the Institute of Integrated Circuits and Systems at HKUST.

Prof. WANG Yiwen, Associate Professor in the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering (ECE) and Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (CBE) at HKUST, develops brain-machine interfaces that restore motor function to paralyzed patients. Her journey from dismantling bicycles to pioneering neural engineering reveals how curiosity, resilience, and mentorship can literally transform lives.

With a warm smile and larger than life personality, it is easy to see how Michael Leung leads the charge at his firm – a world leader in design and manufacturing of cutting-edge technologies, software and services for the professional construction industry. A personality that can put anyone at ease, his own journey from a young student growing up in Hong Kong’s own Kennedy Town to being the first Asian to lead a global company in Australia, he attributes much of his career success to his alma mater, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).

Prof. ZHANG Jiheng, born in Nanjing in the late 1970s, immersed himself in the captivating world of mathematics before transitioning to engineering at age 23 as a PhD candidate at Georgia Tech. After working for 12 years at HKUST, he embraced the challenge of leading the Department of Industrial Engineering and Decision Analytics (IEDA) as its Head, a role he had not foreseen but has grown to cherish. More recently, he has taken on the ambitious endeavor of contributing to Hong Kong’s vision as a smart hub through innovative Theme-Based Research.
