                Ir John KWONG Ka-Sing The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) announced today the appointment of Ir John KWONG Ka-Sing as the Vice-President for Development, effective from September 26, 2024. 

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) acknowledges the decision made by the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government and the University Grants Committee (UGC) regarding the phased adjustment of tuition fees for UGC-funded programs.

Prof. Nancy IP, President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), warmly welcomes and expresses deep appreciation for the comprehensive range of initiatives introduced by Chief Executive Mr. John LEE in his Policy Address today, especially those aim to position Hong Kong as a prominent global hub for post-secondary education and further promote the city as an international center for innovation and technology. The initiatives, which include doubling the admission quota of non-local students at government-funded universities to 40%, scaling up investment in research and development, establishing the third InnoHK cluster, building the “Northern Metropolis University Town”, developing Hong Kong into a health and medical innovation hub, as well as different measures to attract and retain talent, will effectively enhance Hong Kong's position as a global innovation powerhouse with strong intellectual property value.

President Wei SHYY has notified the University Council that he will resign from his appointment with effect from October 19, 2022.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) announced today the appointment of Prof. PONG Ting-Chuen to succeed Mr. Mark HODGSON as the Vice-President for Administration and Business (VPAB), starting from July 1, 2021.

The University will continue to operate manual campus access controls until further notice.  Holders of a valid university card (i.e. a student, staff, family, resident, temporary card or alumni Ecard) must show the card to security at North and South Gates before entering the campus. Visitors can enter the campus if they are pre-registered by students or staff by 3pm of the day preceding the visit, and they will be validated by security at the North and South Gates by reference to the list of pre-registered visitors and their personal ID. The University will continue to monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of the campus access controls and may make further changes from time to time. Hong Kong society is currently fractured, with deep divisions across social groups, political parties, and even amongst family and friends. The past week has seen a rapid escalation of violence and confrontation throughout Hong Kong: several universities are now under protestors’ control; on-campus hazardous materials have been taken; staff and students have left campus out of fear for their personal safety. These events are challenging our universities in the most fundamental way.
