The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has launched the HKUST “Blockcerts” platform – a trust-free, user-friendly verification system for documents such as graduation diplomas and academic transcripts, in its latest move to promote a paperless and sustainable campus as well as tackling the problem of fake diplomas.As the first University in Hong Kong to launch this blockchain-based degree authentication system, HKUST hopes to set a trend for the gradual replacement of the conventional paper verification process - where graduates must make requests and pay the institution every time they need a print copy of their diploma, which is not environmentally friendly and also time-consuming for graduates and employers. HKUST also hopes the Blockcerts system can help hinder illegal activities on academic forgery.  

The School of Business and Management of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST Business School) has unveiled a series of activities for students and the industry to show its full support for Hong Kong Fintech Week which started today. As a satellite event of the InvestHK’s Fintech Week, the School partnered with the Fintech Association of Hong Kong to present an industry panel on November 1. The event entitled: “Bank 4.0 and the Future of Financial Services” featured five experts in the field to discuss the latest technological advancements and their impacts on the world of banking and financial services. Held at HKUST Business Central, the event attracted an audience of over one hundred alumni and industry practitioners. 

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Xunlei Limited (Xunlei or the Company) today announced the establishment of HKUST-Xunlei Joint Laboratory on Blockchain Technology (the Joint Lab). The Joint Lab aims to develop cutting-edge and influential blockchain technologies that are applicable to various industries and establish a high-performance blockchain ecosystem in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. A signing ceremony was held on HKUST campus, marking the official launch of the Joint Lab and research collaboration. Prof. Tim CHENG, Dean of Engineering of HKUST, and Ms. LAI Xin, the Chief Engineer of ThunderChain at Xunlei, signed the collaborative agreement as witnessed by Prof. Nancy IP, Vice-President for Research and Development of HKUST, and Mr. CHEN Lei, Chief Executive Officer of Xunlei and Onething Technologies.
