HKUST Launches HK’s First Tech-Based Degree Program in Data Science and Technology
The School of Science (SSCI) and the School of Engineering (SENG) at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) jointly launched a new degree program in Data Science and Technology (DSCT) amid a pressing demand for data scientists in a world of data explosion. As the first tech-based data science program in Hong Kong for undergraduate students, DSCT seeks to nurture interdisciplinary and pragmatic talents who could address the needs of the society with data analytic and technical approaches.At present, data science programs for undergraduate students tend to focus more on the business dimension - such as how to derive business and management strategies from a pool of data, and less on data engineering skills including coding, machine learning and statistic theories.

The School of Business and Management at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (the HKUST Business School) joined hands with the world’s top alliance of university business schools CEMS1 to hold its first corporate benchmarking conference in Asia. The conference is a highly-regarded forum for top international companies to discuss recruitment and staffing procedures in a neutral environment.The two-day conference held in Hong Kong on 15 and 16 June 2015 provided participating companies, including ABB, Aon Hewitt, EF Education First, Hilti, LinkedIn, Maersk Line, The Ritz-Carlton, United Overseas Bank, among others, with the opportunity to compare and evaluate methods for attracting and retaining high potential graduates as they enter the workforce.

HKUST Develops First Visual Analytic System on E-learning Behavior VisMOOC Won HKICT Innovation Award
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has developed the first visual analytic system for Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC), which provides interactive, in-depth, and user-friendly analysis of e-learning behavior, promising improvement in teaching quality and more demand-focus MOOC programs that could further boost the development of online education.The system Visual Analysis of MOOC (VisMOOC), developed by a team led by Prof Huamin Qu from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, has received the Best Innovation (Innovative Technology) Silver Award at The Hong Kong ICT Awards this year.

HKUST First Local Institution to Co-host “National Challenge Cup”
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) signed a memorandum with Guangdong University of Technology (GDUT) today to map out the details of co-hosting the “National Challenge Cup” – a competition branded as the Olympiad of Science and Technology for university students. It is the first time for a local university to co-host the event in the Cup’s 25 years of history.The biennial "National Challenge Cup" is a mega contest in academic and technological innovation for university students in China. Since Tsinghua University first hosted the event, it has turned into an iconic competition on science and innovation with its scale growing from a few hundred participants out of 19 institutes, to nearly 7,000 students from over 400 universities. Winners included a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, nearly 10 heads of state key laboratories and over 220 professors and doctoral advisors.
