Kellogg-HKUST EMBA Ranks No.2 in the World
The Kellogg-HKUST Executive MBA (EMBA) program maintains its leading position in the world in this year's Financial Times EMBA global ranking. It has been ranked No.2, marking the program’s eleven consecutive years in the top three in the ranking since 2005. In its 17th anniversary, the program is jointly offered by the School of Business and Management at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST Business School) and the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

HKUST Hosts Coursera’s Second Annual Asia Regional Workshop
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted Coursera’s second annual Asia Regional Workshop in Hong Kong. Around 180 representatives from major Asian universities joined the three-day event (15-17 October) for vibrant sessions about Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), online and blended pedagogy, and emerging trends in higher education. The Workshop was hosted by HKUST in collaboration with The University of Hong Kong, bringing together university officials, faculty members, instructional designers, program managers, technology specialists, and course staff from across Couresera’s partner organizations in the region. Coursera is the world’s largest open online education provider.

Sequoia Capital China Founding and Managing Partner Mr Neil Shen Shares Insights on Entrepreneurship in China at HKUST 25th Anniversary Young Entrepreneurs Series
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted the first talk of its 25th Anniversary Young Entrepreneurs Series on 12 October, featuring Mr Neil Shen, Founding and Managing Partner of Sequoia Capital China. The event was well received by students, faculty members and guests from HKUST. Speaking on “Entrepreneurship in China”, Mr Shen outlined the key factors for driving entrepreneurship in China. He shared his insights on how technology breakthroughs and innovations are the two main drivers for entrepreneurship and venture capital in China, and that the key for success lies in converting science breakthroughs into commercial applications and products.

HKUST and University of Waterloo Launch Dual Engineering PhD Degree
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the University of Waterloo, Canada’s leading innovation university, will introduce dual doctoral degrees in engineering that will allow select students to simultaneously earn a PhD from each institution. Prof Tony F Chan, President of HKUST, and Prof Feridun Hamdullahpur, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Waterloo, signed a memorandum of understanding establishing the new program at Waterloo on 7 October. The partnership, that will begin next year, forges a powerful academic alliance between leading universities in Asia and North America. “I am extremely proud to combine our innovation power to train the next generation of scholars and innovators,” said Prof Hamdullahpur. “This PhD education partnership will allow doctoral candidates from top notch Engineering Faculties to build a foundation on which to establish further academic and research collaborations.”

HKUST Stages Groundbreaking Ceremony for Water Sports Center Phase I
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has celebrated the groundbreaking of its Water Sports Center Phase 1 project, which will be a new landmark on the campus not only to provide a practical venue for a wide variety of water sport activities, but also to enrich the holistic campus life experience of students and enhance collaboration between the University and the water sports communities. In order to take full advantage of HKUST’s superb geographical location, which puts it next to one of Hong Kong’s best water areas, President Prof Tony Chan has proposed the building of a water sports center and assigned a task force to spearhead the initiative.  Phase 1 of the Center contains a boat shed providing a central storage for various types of boats and equipment, as well as a backup base camp for training and practice.

HKUST and FSDC Hold Forum to Explore Career Opportunities in Financial Services
The School of Business and Management at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST Business School) and the Financial Services Development Council (FSDC) jointly hosted a forum on 5 October to give students a closer look at the wide variety of career opportunities in the financial services sector. Entitled “Careers in Financial Services”, the forum is the fifth event under the FSDC's Practitioner Speakers Series, which aims to provide guidance to young graduates and university students and help them plan career paths in the financial industry. Around 100 students attended the forum to explore with a leading financial practitioner the career prospects in the sector.
