HKUST Chemistry Professor Receives Khwarizmi International Award
Prof Ben Zhong Tang, Stephen Kam Chuen Cheong Professor of Science and Chair Professor in the Department of Chemistry at HKUST, has been selected as a laureate of the 27th Khwarizmi International Award (KIA) by the Iranian Organization for Science and Technology. Prof Tang received the Khwarizmi International Award, Second Class, in recognition of his outstanding achievements in aggregation-induced emission (AIE) and its high-tech applications in the areas of optoelectronic devices, chemical sensors, and biological probes.

Lenovo Founder Mr Chuanzhi Liu To Speak On China's Manufacturing Growth at UC RUSAL President's Forum
UC RUSAL (SEHK: 486, Euronext: RUSAL/RUAL, Moscow Exchange: RUALR/RUALRS), a leading global aluminum producer, and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) have invited Mr Chuanzhi Liu, Chairman of Legend Holdings Corporation (Legend Holdings) and Founder and Honorary Chairman of Lenovo, to speak at the UC RUSAL President's Forum on 27 March 2014. This is the first time Mr Liu will give a speech at an educational institution in Hong Kong.
The forum will be hosted by Prof Tony F Chan, President of HKUST. At the Forum, Mr Liu will share insights on "The Growth of China's Manufacturers - Talking about Legend".

The Women's Foundation and ANZ launch a new Scholarship Award to encourage female undergraduates to pursue engineering and technology degrees at HKUST
ANZ donates 30 paintings painted by Susan Yuen, CEO of ANZ Hong Kong, for auction to raise proceeds for scholarship fund
The Women's Foundation and ANZ announced today an exciting new partnership to address the under-representation of young women in Hong Kong pursuing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects at university.
The need for this support comes on the back of a new study conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) for The Women's Foundation showing that the technology sector continues to be largely male-dominated in Hong Kong.

Going forward
HKUST Business School achieves widespread global recognition and a variety of prestigious academic rankings in a remarkably short period of time, and this year is no exception. A HKUST MBA Team becomes the winner of a prestigious international competition – the Marshall Challenge, empowering students to take action to lead the way forward.
The HKUST MBA team outperformed their peers from the world’s top business schools and won the Grand Prize at the Marshall Global Consulting Challenge in late February.
To reflect a positive and vibrant mood, the five-member team from around the globe made use of the international mix of the MBA program and soft skills they learned from the program including presentation skills, multifaceted data research approach and others to give it their best shot in the competition. Students learned from team collaboration with a broad perspective.

Opening of HKUST Energy Institute to Fuel Fresh Solutions to Sustainable Future
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today celebrated the opening of the HKUST Energy Institute, and the Institute's first forum on sustainable energy. The forum featured 16 leading scientists and energy experts from Hong Kong, Mainland China, Japan and the United States, who spoke on some of the world's most pressing energy issues.
The establishment of the Institute manifests HKUST's commitment to securing an affordable, reliable and sustainable energy future. The Institute is dedicated to providing a multi-disciplinary platform for fostering energy-related research and curricular programs that gather talent, coalitions and partnerships from across HKUST and beyond.

Make a Splash!
Sport is a great way to connect people. Situated right on the waterfront, HKUST takes full advantage of its enviable natural environment, showing full support for the development of water sports on campus.
The HKUST Water Sports Center was soft launched on 19 October 2013 at the Dragon Boat Fun Race. In the future, the Center will offer diverse types of recreational and water sports activities for enrichment of campus life. Activities will include dragon boat, sea rowing, windsurfing, kayaking, sailing, and many others.
HKUST aspires to create an environment where its students can get together to try challenging outdoor pursuits, find common interest through sportsmanship, develop their competitive spirit, and foster the virtues of discipline, resilience and excellence.

HKUST MBA Team Wins Prestigious Global Case Competition
A team of HKUST MBA students outperformed their peers from the business schools of eight top-ranked institutes including Yale University and University of Chicago, and won the Grand Prize at the Marshall Global Consulting Challenge. The annual business case competition organized by the University of Southern California (USC) is designed to challenge the minds and problem-solving abilities of the best MBA students around the world.
The HKUST team was the only contender from Asia. Their thorough preparation, quality analysis, and innovative ideas impressed the judges, and took home the championship in the competition.

HKUST Presents Long Service Awards 2014
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today held its 5th Long Service Award Presentation Ceremony, honoring faculty and staff members who have served the University for 20 years.
HKUST established the Long Service Award to express appreciation and to recognize long-serving faculty and staff members whose hard work and dedication have contributed to the University's rapid rise over the past 23 years. This year, HKUST presented awards to 240 members who joined the University in 1994.
HKUST President Prof Tony F Chan, together with the vice-presidents, deans, units heads and directors attended the presentation ceremony. Awardees' families and friends were also invited to join the occasion by the University.
