VPIA and CIVL Chair Prof. Charles NG Wang-Wai has received three distinguished awards: the Telford Gold Medal from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) in London, the Donald Stanley Award from the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering, and the Scott Sloan Best Paper Award from Computers and Geotechnics.  

In an interview with RTHK program Millennium Era, SENG Dean/GSCI Director Prof. Hong LO andGSCI Senior Research Engineer Dr. NG Ka-Fai introduced the Smart Traffic Management Systemdeveloped by their team. The system analyzes road conditions simulated from real traffic data and supports the ongoing Smart Traffic Management Project in collaboration with the Wong Tai Sin Police District. 

In an article on increased global government investment in chip design tools and related research to encourage onshore chip production, VPRD Prof. Tim CHENG was quoted as saying that the opportunity is enormous if faculty can connect with the investment community or with industry.

Researchers at HKUST and Stanford University found that a game-changing algorithm could address slash latency and boost throughput in large language model (LLM) inference, which can be up to five times slower than necessary due to overly cautious scheduling. 

FINA Assoc. Prof. of Business Practice Prof. Winnie PENG Qian, highlighted the three key roles of a family office, noted that managing the family is more important than managing the wealth. 

CSE Prof. WU Dekai, who has studied AI for over 30 years, pointed out that AI Hallucination are not intentional lies, but are caused by the nature of large language models.  

Led by HKUST, HKGAI has announced a strategic partnership with FLock.io, to revolutionize government and public sector efficiency through the development of advanced, domain-specific AI models.

A total of 15 state key laboratories (SKLs) in HK, including 3 affiliated with HKUST, 5 with HKU and 4 with CUHK, yesterday received plaques from the Ministry of Science and Technology of China (MOST).

In an article on K visa facilitating talent exchange amid US visa restrictions on international students, VPIA Prof. Charles NG Wang-Wai previously told a reporter from Global Times that visa-free access is a tool to attract talents.  

A feature story by i-Cable TV highlighted how universities are encouraging students to create AI-generated films through art and technology education. HKUST organized the "AI Film Festival", the first of its kind in Greater China, showcasing 35 AI-generated short films selected from over 700 global entries.
