HKUST and Indonesia's Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Deepen Partnership with Garuda Scholarship Framework to Nurture Top-Tier Talent
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to reinforce the implementation of an Indonesian government-funded scholarship framework aimed at cultivating top-tier future talent. A cornerstone of this collaboration is the integration of Indonesia’s newly launched Garuda Scholarship to support more outstanding students pursuing undergraduate studies at HKUST. Building on the cooperation agreement established in May 2024, the new MoU solidifies the formal scholarship framework while paving the way for both parties to explore further synergistic opportunities in student internships, academic exchanges, and joint research initiatives to drive innovation in higher education.

HKUST Holds Naming Ceremony for the Hong Kong Chiu Chow Chamber of Commerce Scholar Nexus
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has received a generous donation from the Hong Kong Chiu Chow Chamber of Commerce (The Chamber) to support the University’s academic development and research innovation. The donation will also establish a scholarship scheme to encourage HKUST students to explore their potential beyond academics, while promoting exchange of Chinese culture and technology.In recognition of the Chamber’s steadfast support, a hub for scholarly and cultural exchange within HKUST’s Academic Building has been named the Hong Kong Chiu Chow Chamber of Commerce Scholar Nexus. This initiative underscores the importance of university-industry collaboration in cultivating future leaders and marks a new chapter in their ongoing partnership.

HKUST Secures Support from Stellar Rise for In-Orbit Bio-Inspired Robotic Project
The Centre for AI Robotics in Space Sustainability (CAIRSS) at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has secured HKD 46 million in funding from Stellar Rise Global Holdings Limited (Stellar Rise) to develop advanced bio-inspired robotic manipulation technologies for in-orbit operations. The project aims to support space debris removal and enable next-generation in-orbit manufacturing. With strong backing from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)’ institutions, the project targets an in-orbit demonstration by 2029, contributing to the sustainable development of space technology and the space economy, while supporting the nation's goal of advancing its position as an aerospace powerhouse.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today successfully hosted its annual "Unicorn Day," one of Hong Kong's flagship innovation and entrepreneurship events. The event brought together over 1,800 participants, including students, faculty, and alumni, as well as international and local government representatives, industry partners, investors, innovation and technology entrepreneurs, and researchers. HKUST and Uzbekistan’s “El-Yurt Umidi” Foundation Sign MOA to Forge Strategic Undergraduate and Executive Education Partnerships
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Uzbekistan's "El-Yurt Umidi" Foundation (the Foundation) have formalized a strategic partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). Under the agreement, both parties have pledged to strengthen educational cooperation through scholarships, academic exchanges, and executive training, providing a high-impact development pathway for talented Uzbek students and professionals through world-class international education.The MOA signing ceremony was held earlier at the Law Enforcement Academy of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The agreement was signed by Mr. Eric LO, Head (Global Intelligence and Strategy), Office of Institutional Data and Research at HKUST, and Dr. Gulnoza ISMAILOVA, Executive Director of the “El-Yurt Umidi” Foundation for the Training of Prospective Personnel under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Led by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and established under the InnoHK research clusters of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), the Hong Kong Space Robotics and Energy Centre (HKSREC) today hosted the event themed "Leading Space Intelligence: Into the Future." HKUST Secures Dual UNESCO Endorsements for Two International Deep-Sea Research Programs
Two international deep-sea research initiatives, led by the Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Guangzhou) (GML) with significant contributions from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), have received official endorsement from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Both initiatives are designed to address critical gaps in climate science by investigating seabed methane seeps' role in global warming and exploring biodiversity in extreme deep-sea ecosystems. The two programs are poised to strengthen global collaboration and deliver scientific insights essential for tackling future climate challenges.
