HKUST President Prof. Nancy IP Welcomes Policy Address
Prof. Nancy IP, President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), warmly welcomes the wide range of initiatives presented by Chief Executive Mr. John LEE in his Policy Address today.  She is particularly excited about his support for establishing a third medical school, increased funding and favorable policies in support of research and entrepreneurships, and a series of collaboration plans with the Greater Bay area, which shall further position Hong Kong as an international hub for health and medical innovation.

HKUST Expands Horizon in Education Innovation through Global Network
Provost of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), Prof. GUO Yike and Yvonne Li, Head of Global Engagement & Greater China Affairs, attended the APRU Senior International Leaders’ Meeting at Keio University in Tokyo from October 9 - 11, 2024. The event gathered 70 senior representatives from 44 universities across 16 regions, fostering a rich environment for dialogues and collaboration on pressing educational challenges. In his keynote on “Innovating Higher Education through Creative Technologies”, Prof. Guo discussed the transformative integration of art and AI in education and artistic creation, stimulating discussions on AI’s potential in educational advancements. Following his presentation, Prof. Guo participated in discussion with other senior leaders to further explore the potential of AI in education. The sharing and panel discussion underscored the critical role of educators in achieving cognitive breakthroughs in AI.

HKUST and Ocean Park Corporation Strengthen Collaboration on Education and Research
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted an agreement signing ceremony with Ocean Park Corporation on October 7, building on the universities' strong foundation of partnership. The ceremony was held during HKUST's French Science Festival and featured Prof. Jianping GAN, Head of HKUST's Department of Ocean Science, and Dr. Paolo MARTELLI, Director of Veterinary Services at Ocean Park. This new agreement sets a robust framework to leverage shared resources and expertise, offering mutual benefits in areas like zoology, environmental conservation, data science, and creative media. It also aims at leveraging the resources to enrich education and research, offering practical learning opportunities through internships and research projects for students.

HKUST Explores Marine Sciences at French Science Festival
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted the French Science Festival from October 6-7, 2024, on campus. Organized in partnership with the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong & Macau, the festival showcased HKUST's world-class capabilities in marine science research and education. Through a diverse range of public activities including talks, hands-on workshops, virtual reality experiences, and tours of HKUST's state-of-the-art Ocean Research Facility, participants delved deep into marine ecosystems and conservation.

HKUST Convenes Consul Generals to Navigate the Future Course of Belt and Road Initiative
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Belt and Road Forum, organized by Global Engagement and Greater China Affairs and co-hosted by the Division of Public Policy, themed "Navigating New Frontiers: The Future of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)," concluded successfully on October 7. Nearly 100 students, faculty, staff, and alumni gathered on campus to explore how the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has been fostering international cooperation and enhancing connectivity and prosperity.

HKUST Introduces City’s Largest Liquid Immersion Cooling Technology for Sustainable AI & Scientific Research
To meet the surging demand for high-power AI research sustainably, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has launched the city’s largest Liquid Immersion Cooling system in its new research computing facility. This new technology reduces energy consumption for cooling by over 80% and creates an optimal operating environment that can enhance computing performance at lower temperature. High Performance Computing (HPC) is vital for scientific research that involves analyzing vast amounts of data or complex algorithms. However, they consume significant electricity, and excessive heat can hinder their performance.

HKUST-Sino One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition 2024
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Sino Group have long been partners in nurturing the next generation of creative talents, organising the 'HKUST-SINO One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition’ as a platform for aspiring young entrepreneurs to develop innovative solutions. This year, a record-breaking 340 teams from Hong Kong and around the world participated in the competition, with a new ‘International Student Track’ introduced for overseas university students. This initiative fosters collaboration between local and overseas universities, stimulating creative exchanges among global talents.
