HKUST and Li & Fung Launch Supply Chain Institute
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Li & Fung, a member of Fung Group, jointly announced today the establishment of the HKUST Li & Fung Supply Chain Institute (the Institute), aimed at advancing research and practices in global supply chain management (SCM) innovation. The Institute brings together HKUST’s research excellence and Li & Fung’s industry expertise in supply chain management to drive real-world impact across the Greater Bay Area, Greater China, Asia, and globally, while contributing to Hong Kong’s development into a multinational supply chain management center — a strategic objective highlighted in the city’s latest Budget. It aims to reach these goals by engaging in collaborative research, developing business intelligence through industry research and policy studies, and fostering talent development through customized executive education and partnership programs.

HKUST Sets up “Relaxation Corner” for Students to Unwind and Revitalize During Exam Period (Chinese version only)
學生回到校園竟可像家中一樣在豆袋梳化上充電休息?正值考試期間,香港科技大學(科大)自本周一起舉辦「Recharge · Refuel · Relax」考試周活動,將校園內人流最多的香港賽馬會大堂改造成「放空角落」,舖上大片綠色草地,並添置多個豆袋梳化及迷你高爾夫體驗區,鼓勵學生在努力溫習備試之際,亦可抽空和其他同學見面傾談,從而放鬆心情、釋放壓力。 是次活動由不同部門及學院攜手舉辦,除了提供休息區外,亦擺放攤位遊戲,並派發零食、生果杯、咖啡等,為學生補充能量,恢復活力!此外,活動亦設一系列藝術工作坊,包括曼陀羅繪畫、布袋及手機繩DIY等,宣揚以藝術紓解疲累及壓力。 與此同時,校園亦設有由理學院舉辦的「EMPOWERMENT」學生作品展覽,展出115件由理學院一年級學生設計的T恤作品。這些作品是必修課程「習慣、思維與身心健康」的作業之一,鼓勵同學通過藝術創作,記低能夠在疲憊中為他們帶來力量的人與事物,凝聚正向能量,互勵互勉。

HKUST Showcases Technological Innovations for Cultural Heritage at UNESCO Conference
Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Vice-President for Institutional Advancement Prof. WANG Yang, participated in the UNESCO Conference "Cultural Heritage and Peace: Building on 70 years of the Hague Convention”, held in The Hague on May 4, as a panel speaker for the session "New Technologies and the Protection of Cultural Property". Prof. Wang shared insights on the potential utilization of cutting-edge technologies such as blockchain, satellite remote-sensing, and drone applications to enhance the protection and monitoring of cultural heritage. He also highlighted the transformative role of Big Data and AI in this vital field.

New Measurements Developed by Prof. Jian Zhen YU’s Research Team Reveal a Significant Contribution of Nitrogenous Molecules to Ambient Organic Aerosol
A Research Paper titled “New measurements reveal a large contribution of nitrogenous molecules to ambient organic aerosol” authored by Prof. Jian Zhen YU (Chair Professor, Division of Environment and Sustainability) and her postgraduate research students was recently published on npj Climate and Atmospheric Science, a journal focusing the physical, chemical and biological components of the climate and atmospheric sciences.

HKUST Strengthens Partnerships in The Netherlands
Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Vice-President for Institutional Advancement Prof. Yang Wang and Ms. Yvonne Li, Head of Global Engagement & Greater China Affairs, travelled to Amsterdam and The Hague this week, on the occasion of the “Cultural Heritage and Peace: Building on 70 years of the Hague Convention” organized by UNESCO and the Government of The Netherlands.

Prof. Ricky LEE Awarded ASME Worcester Reed Warner Medal 2024
Prof. Ricky LEE Shi-Wei, Chair Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Dean of Systems Hub and Chair Professor of Smart Manufacturing Thrust at HKUST (Guangzhou), has been selected to receive the prestigious 2024 Worcester Reed Warner Medal by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) in recognition of “defining solder joint failure modes that impact industrial test standards”

HKUST Strengthens International Ties with UAE Institutions
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted a delegation from The American University of Sharjah (AUS), led by Chancellor Dr. Tod LAURSEN, on campus on May 13. The AUS delegation had a fruitful meeting with HKUST leaders including Associate Vice-President (Global Engagement & Communications) Ms. Daisy CHAN, Dean of Engineering Prof. Hong LO and Dean of Science Prof. Yung Hou WONG. The AUS representatives shared their university's emphasis on broadening international student admissions, enhancing student mobility and developing interdisciplinary programs. They were also impressed with HKUST’s strengths in research innovation and commitment in expanding student exchange partnerships globally. The visit concluded with a tour of HKUST's state-of-the-art facilities including the Cheng Kar-Shun Robotics Institute and Shaw Auditorium.

HKUST Strengthens Ties with UNESCO On Fostering an Inclusive and Diverse Global Community
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted a delegation from UNESCO, led by former Director-General Mrs. Irina BOKOVA, on campus on May 13.  HKUST President Prof. Nancy IP met with Mrs. Bokova and her delegation, in attendance of HKUST senior leaders, including Associate Vice-President (Global Engagement & Communications) Ms. Daisy CHAN, Acting Dean of Students Prof. King CHOW, and Acting Head of the Division of Public Policy Prof. Naubahar SHARIF. During the meeting, Mrs. Bokova shared insights about the impacts of climate change on preserving cultural heritage and discussed related challenges. The HKUST team outlined the university’s efforts to foster an inclusive and diverse global community through student internationalization.
