HKUST Unlocks AI’s Potential with Young Global Leaders
Leading the way in artificial intelligence (AI) research, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) recently hosted a group of young global leaders to explore the transformative power of AI and its critical role in tackling global challenges. Around 40 influential individuals from the World Economic Forum (Forum)’s Young Global Leaders (YGL) leadership development program gathered at HKUST - the first university in Greater China to host the event. Warmly welcomed by the University’s Council Chairman Prof. Harry SHUM and President Prof. Nancy IP, the group consisted of senior executives and members of leading companies and organizations worldwide, spanning a broad spectrum of sectors such as technology, media, public administration, investment banking, and humanitarian aid across 22 countries and regions.

HKUST Confers Honorary Fellowships on Six Distinguished Individuals
Six distinguished individuals, Mr. Nicholas CHAN Hiu-Fung, Dr. Adrian CHENG Chi-Kong, Mr. Wilson FUNG Ying-Wai, Prof. Albert IP Yuk-Keung, Ms. Sarah LEE Wai-Sze and Ms. YAO Jue (in alphabetical order of surnames) were conferred Honorary Fellowships by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today. Officiating at the ceremony were Prof. Harry SHUM, Chairman of the HKUST Council, and Prof. Nancy IP, President of the HKUST.
HKUST Council Chairman Prof. Harry Shum applauded the six awardees for their outstanding accomplishments, significant contributions to society and unwavering support to the University. “Each of our six new Honorary Fellows has set a high bar of excellence in their respective domains, effecting positive change within Hong Kong and beyond. Their journeys and accomplishments serve as a beacon of inspiration, encouraging the future generation to break boundaries and catalyze meaningful change for the betterment of society,” he said.

HKUST Strengthens Global Bonds with the UAE
HKUST welcomed a delegation from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), further fortifying our partnership and fostering dynamic knowledge exchange. This monumental visit marked a significant milestone in strengthening bonds with the Middle East region.
The UAE's Economy Minister H.E. Abdulla bin Touq Al MARRI and his delegation engaged in insightful discussions with HKUST Acting President Prof. GUO Yike and other senior leaders. The discussions revolved around exploring potential collaborations in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), sustainability, knowledge transfer, and student recruitment. This visit has laid a solid foundation for future collaborations and the cultivation of international talents.

Sixteen HKUST Students Volunteer at Hangzhou Asian Games (Chinese version only)
香港科技大學(科大)今日派遣全港最大規模的大學生團隊,到杭州亞洲運動會出任義務工作。是次出征獲中央人民政府駐香港特別行政區聯絡辦公室(中聯辦)協調安排,16名科大學生義工,包括多個來自如劍擊、欖球、射箭和合球等大學校隊的成員,本周初出席了由中聯辦教育科技部處長方磊主持的培訓活動,並於今日中午正式啟程前往杭州,參與將於本周六揭幕的第19屆亞洲運動會。
此外,3名科大學生和校友亦將以運動員身份,於本屆亞運會與各國運動員同場競技,為港爭光。出賽的科大運動員包括透過學生運動員入學計劃(SAAS)入讀機械及航空航天工程學系的伍泰龍,他將代表香港出戰本屆亞運的三項鐵人項目。市場學系學生黄皓雋將出戰足球項目;而剛於本年畢業的資訊系統學系校友黃淨淳,則將出戰運動攀登項目。科大一向著重學生之多元發展,並設有學生運動員入學計劃(SAAS),提供獎學金、生活津貼、全面及靈活的學習支援和安排,以助學生運動員同時追求運動及學術成就。
