The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is honored to name the Talent Hub on the ground floor of its Main Academic Building the "Yip Kit Chuen and Yuen Yuk Hing Talent Hub", in recognition of a generous donation from Dr. YIP Kit-Chuen, Founder of G.E.W. Corporation Limited and Chairman of GEW Holdings Limited, in support of the University's long-term development.

A naming ceremony was held recently at HKUST, attended by distinguished guests including Dr. Yip Kit-Chuen; his eldest son, Dr. Daniel YIP Chung-Yin, Director of G.E.W. International Corporation Limited; his second son, Mr. Acton YIP Chung-Kin, Managing Director of G.E.W. International Corporation Limited, and his third son, Mr. Thomas YIP Chung-Lik, Managing Director of G.E.W. International Corporation Limited. They were joined by Prof. Nancy IP, HKUST President; Prof. GUO Yike, HKUST Provost; Prof. Tim CHENG, HKUST Vice-President for Research and Development; and Prof. Charles NG, HKUST Vice-President for Institutional Advancement; and Ir. Dr. Yip Kit-Chuen remarked, "'Taking from society and giving back to society' is the responsibility of entrepreneurs. We hope to give back to society through concrete actions and create more opportunities for the younger generation. With its outstanding academic achievements and innovative research spirit, HKUST has nurtured numerous exceptional talents for society. It is a great honor for my wife and me to join hands with such an outstanding university in contributing to the cultivation of the next generation."

Prof. Nancy Ip expressed heartfelt appreciation for Dr. Yip's generosity to the University. She remarked, "Dr. Yip's philanthropic spirit exemplifies the noble tradition of Hong Kong entrepreneurs giving back to society. This donation will accelerate HKUST’s advancements in frontier areas such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and sustainable development. It will inject new momentum into the establishment of the HKUST School of Medicine, support Hong Kong's development as an international hub for medical training, research, and innovation, and further solidify the city's position as a global innovation and technology center."

Prof. Ip emphasized that the "Talent Hub"–a key space for interaction among students, scholars, and visitors–now stands as a lasting tribute to Dr. and Mrs. Yip's profound contributions to the University.

Dr. Yip Kit-Chuen, a distinguished Hong Kong industrialist and philanthropist, built his business empire from the ground up, transforming G.E.W. into a global brand through diversified operations. Dr. Yip and his wife, Madam Yuen Yuk Hing, are renowned for their generosity and philanthropic spirit. Over the years, they have devoted themselves to charitable endeavors, with a strong focus on advancing education in both Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland. Dr. Yip's exceptional accomplishments have been widely acknowledged across various sectors of society. He was honored with the World Outstanding Chinese Award in 2006 and the Industrialist of the Year Award in 2017.

The generous donation from Dr. Yip Kit-Chuen will help enhance HKUST's teaching facilities, promote interdisciplinary research, and expand internship and innovation opportunities for students. This naming further underscores the shared vision between the University and community leaders in cultivating future leaders.
